CLOUD FILES
CLOUD FILES AND CONTENT DELIVERY
Store it all. Serve it worldwide.
In an industry first, you can deliver that content to your users at high speeds over Akamai's content delivery network.
HOW CLOUD FILES WORK
Store and manage unlimited files using our online control panel, desktop software, or programmatically via the API.
Unlike traditional storage solutions, there's nothing to buy and no upfront costs for cloud storage. You'll pay only for the file storage space and outgoing bandwidth that you actually use.
Each container that you create for your files can be marked as either private or public. (See "Public or Private" below.)
PUBLIC OR PRIVATE CLOUD FILES
In public containers, your media files receive a web-ready URL that can be shared with anyone. Public files are served blazingly fast too, thanks to Cloud Files integration with the Akamai Content Delivery Network.
With private containers, all traffic between your application and Cloud Files uses SSL to establish a secure, encrypted channel. This ensures that any data (usernames, passwords, and content) cannot be intercepted and read by a third party.
CLOUD FILES IN ACTION
"I can get someone on the phone at Rackspace. I can't even find a phone number on Amazon's Web site"
Mike McDerment - CEO, Freshbooks Inc
Cloud Files allows TweetPhoto to store photos and make them easily accessible to their global users thanks to the integration with the CDN.
OpenStack is an open source, collaborative software project among dozens of big players and hundreds of developers in the Cloud Computing space. The mission of the OpenStack community is to productize a ubiquitous open source cloud computing platform. It was launched with contributions from us here at Rackspace and the NASA Nebula cloud platform
The Cloud Files development team created and contributed the underlying source code that has become OpenStack Object Storage software, which is the underlying software currently powering Cloud Files.
