Public Cloud, Private Cloud or Hybrid?
There are two types of cloud: public cloud and private cloud. At Rackspace, we offer both public and private cloud, and even a hybrid combination of both—so you can design a system that maximises both cost savings and security.
Public Cloud
With a public cloud, you are using servers that are securely segmented and shared with other customers. And since the resources are shared, you will realise the biggest cost savings. This makes public cloud a great solution for businesses that need the scalability and flexibility of the cloud, but also want to keep costs low.
Additionally, with public cloud, you can deploy a server in a few minutes; whereas with private cloud, you may need to wait for a deployment when you want to add more physical servers.
Cloud Servers™ and Managed Cloud Servers™ are our public cloud offerings. Cloud Servers is great for do-it-yourself’ers, while Managed Cloud Servers is designed for those who need an additional level of support.

Private Cloud
With private cloud, you are using dedicated servers—servers that are used only by you. This provides you with some of the scalability and flexibility benefits of cloud, along with the secure comfort and power of dedicated resources and the highest levels of support. We offer two types of private cloud:
Rackspace® Cloud: Private Edition is an OpenStack®-based private cloud environment, which can be deployed at a Rackspace data centre, on-premises at your own data centre, or at an Equinix data centre.
Private Cloud: Virtualised by VMware® is a VMware-based private cloud environment, which we can design, manage, and support for you in Rackspace data centres.

Hybrid
